The Citadel is the current form of an ancient order of wizards who ruled most of northern [[:itrefaulk]] 3000 years ago. Today it is a training school for wizards, conducts magical research, and provides magical items and magic users (at high prices) to governments, businesses, and organizations all over the planet. It also tries to collect as much information as possible on everything, and influence governments in ways concurrent with its own interests.

Best estimates place the strength of the Citadel at no less than 500 wizards, making it the largest and most powerful magical group on the planet. They are also believed to be fabulously wealthy, and have a sizable private army armed with magical weapons. The Citadel owns several Spelljamming ships, engages in off-planet trade, and opposes the machinations of [[:syndecol_industries|Syndecol Industries]] (the two organizations have fought outright wars twice in the past, both inconclusive). The fortress has repulsed large attacks several times, and has powerful mundane and magical defenses.

The magic users of the Citadel are classified by ability into 5 ranks: Apprentice (levels 0-4), Magician (levels 5-9), Wizard (levels 10-14), Mage (levels 15-17), and Archmage (levels 18-20+).

The Citadel is ruled by the six most senior Archmages, known as The Circle. Current Circle members are
