(birthdate unknown) Male air Genasi monk. He is of average height and weight, with blue skin, no hair, and blue-within-blue eyes. In the present epoch, he is an adventurer with The Sherds.

Soom suddenly appeared at the Four Elements Temple in the Mountains of Mikanos on Jeshos in a cloud of coalescing atoms in CY 1119. He is aware that his consciousness was dissolved into the space between realities. However, he has no memory prior to that. It’s possible that he has some degree of brain damage from his ordeal – he often gets distracted, wanders off when bored, and makes poorly-thought-out or impulsive decisions.

It is known at the temple that some exceptional individuals travel so far inward that they come out the other side, disappearing in a spectacular display of light and rainbows. The names of these individuals are inscribed on a sacred pillar in the bowels of the temple. Soom has found his name there, but knows nothing else about his past.

Soom left the Four Elements Temple amidst controversy – since no one witnessed his reappearance, there was doubt as to whether he was actually the Soom Anemoi from long ago. The reappearance of enlightened beings was very rare, and usually occurred within a decade. If it were true, Soom would have been missing for over one thousand years, a length of time that, according to prophecy, would herald a dangerous era in which he would play an important role in determining the fate of the multiverse. He was instead deemed either possessed or insane due to his claims of flashes of other realities. These realities were just like this one, but subtly different. “That’s not how the multiverse works,” his teacher said, pointing to the Temple’s traditional multiversal chart gifted by travelers from another world. Leaving his past behind him and focusing purely on the present, Soom set off in search of meaning and purpose.

Immediately preceding his reappearance in the temple, it was likely that he came through the Astral Plane. So, eschewing the Way of the Four Elements in favor of a path more appropriate to his inconstant existence, Soom sought out sages in the Astral Plane to answer his questions. He began training with a uniquely pacifistic cadre of Githyanki outcasts, who taught him the Way of the Astral Self. Learning more about the connection between the Astral Plane and the Prime Material Plane, Soom gained the ability to manifest astral aspects even when on other planes.

While closely investigating the inaccessible nature of the links between the Astral Plane and other planes, Soom discovered something new: a single point in space. Though zero-dimensional objects are usually not observable by mortal beings, the point was sentient and could interface with other dimensions, allowing it to communicate. It informed Soom that it is Juhm, a creator of miracles, and that it would take whatever is predictable and make it less so, throughout all dimensions and realities. Its goal is to gradually make improbable events increasingly common, ultimately shunting this reality to the outskirts of the Multiverse, where the laws of physics are weaker and magic can be harnessed on an unprecedented scale.

Juhm corrupted Soom’s connection to the Astral Plane, making his astral manifestations much less predictable, sometimes appearing as pure magical energy, and other times as entirely different forms of energy. In addition to force, observed forms include acid, cold, fire, lightning, thunder, poison, psychic, light, and dark. There are other aspects to this corruption that are unknown. Soom has also become increasingly erratic, at one point ripping the heart out of a living pipe organ and claiming one of its bones as a weapon.

Later, Soom was caught in a spatio-temporal explosion when The Sherds battled forces of the Darakhul Empire. Knocked out of space and time, he was propelled to the Astral Plane, where a voice from The Nowhere spoke into his mind. The voice belonged to a Nowhales, telling Soom that it would help him counterbalance the forces of chaos within him, for the protection of all existence. Acting as patron, it gave Soom the abilities of a warlock, allowing him to embody some of the aspects of Nowhere.

At times serene and observant, Soom can also veer into rash and unpredictable behavior, reflecting the warring forces within his soul. Currently adventuring with the Sherds, the camaraderie of his companions helps to keep Juhm and the Nowhale from unduly influencing Soom’s thoughts, allowing him to seek out a solution to the problem of Juhm and answers to the nature of the Nowhale. He maintains hope that the Pot of Destiny will provide the knowledge he needs, and that the Sherds will help him act on it.
