Trol Sr. is originally from a civilization of dwarves which are long separated from the mountain dwarves of Alech'nor. Having continued to dig underground for hundreds of miles, they built a thriving underground civilization, until about 1000 years ago when there was a massive cave collapse that separated Alech'nor from those who now called themselves the Underdwarves. Finally, about 250 years ago, while building a new tunnel to expand their city, they found a mostly vertical shaft. The shaft turned out to be from a long dead volcano and lead up to a small island in the middle of the ocean.
Trol Oakbeard
Trol Oakbeard, the son of a blacksmith grew up in the Underdwarf city of Dig Garohm, approximately 1000ft below and ten miles west of the island. Trol’s early years were uneventful. Due to his father’s need for help around the shop, Trol had little time for friends. Any free time he did have was spent practicing with one of the swords his father would make for the town guard or down at the local pub.
Trol's Downfall
Late in a particularly rowdy evening a drunken Trol picked a fight with, and nearly killed a town guard. Trol was promptly arrested and put in jail. At his sentencing Trol was stripped of his name and given the new alias “Drunken Dwarf”. He was also given an option – He could lose his sword hand, and therefore his ability to cause harm to others, or he could leave the kingdom of the Underdwarf forever.
The drunken dwarf was given a small sailboat, 2 gold, and enough food and water to make it to Alech’nor. No alcohol was included. Upon reaching Alech’nor he found the nearest tavern and drank away his two gold within the first night. The next several years were very hard for him as the only thing he knew was how to swing a sword. He would travel from city to city working as a part time guard until he would get fired for drunkenness. Sometimes he would engage in arena battles and bet on himself. If he wasn’t too drunk, he would win.
Frawd Neknurd
The drunken dwarf woke up one afternoon. The nurse in the room told him that he had been out for about two weeks after losing a battle to a half orc. It was that day, in a rare moment of sobriety that the drunken dwarf decided that he would drink no more. Instead of just being called The Drunken Dwarf he would introduce himself as Frawd Neknurd to remind himself that he’s just one backwards fall from being a Drunken Dwarf.
Redemption
In the years following, Frawd would become a great fighter, save the realm from Koshei, and earn back his name. In retirement, he founded Oakbeard Brewing Company and a series of restaurants known as "Trol's Place".
