King's Code of Laws

The highest level of law for the Ketten Islands, set by the ancient Kings and enforced today by royal power. The Code sets forth the rights and powers of the king, the rights and responsibilities of citizens, what things are forbidden by law, and what punishments are levied for breaking those laws. Local jurisdictions in the towns and cities may, with royal consent, add to these laws, but may never subtract from them. These laws hold anywhere in the Islands.

The Rights and Powers of the King

It is the Gods-granted and noble right of the King to

1. Levy and collect taxes.
2. Raise and employ an Army for the defense of the nation.
3. Raise and employ a Navy for the defense of the nation.
4. Make such laws as he sees fit for the fair and just governance of the nation.
5. Appoint and dismiss such ministers and officials as he sees fit, and designate their powers and duties.
6. Sit as judge in cases of offense against the nation, and pass sentence.
7. Grant and revoke titles and ranks of nobility.
8. Dwell in the royal palaces and have use of all royal lands and property.
8. Grants pardons and honors.
9. Make war and peace in defense of the nation.
10. Pass on the kingship to his firstborn heir or another of the royal blood as he chooses.

The Rights And Responsibilities of Citizens

Each and every citizen of the Islands has right or duty to

1. Pay such taxes and fees as set by the Royal House and local jurisdiction.
2. Obey all laws and legally give orders of the governments or appointees thereof.
3. Respect the persons and property of the royal house and the nobility.
4. Have liberty of person except where charged, found guilty, and sentenced by legal authorities.
5. Have liberty of religion and belief.
6. Freedom from slavery.
7. Marry such person or persons they desire.
8. Own land and property, and not have it taken without due cause.

Acts Forbidden by Law

These things are forbidden, and the standard punishments:

1. Piracy or the aiding and abetting of piracy. Death.
2. Unlawful taking of life. Imprisonment or Death.
3. Unlawful injuring or taking captive of persons. Imprisonment and/or Restitution.
3. Buying, selling, or keeping slaves. Death.
4. Theft of the property of another. Imprisonment.
5. Destruction of the property of another. Imprisonment and/or Restitution
6. Lying to an agent of the King's government, or the nobility. Imprisonment.
7. Treason or Espionage for a foreign power.Death
8. Disrespect to a member or the Royal House or Nobility.Imprisonment.
9. Abandonment of military position.Imprisonment.
10. Impersonating members of the government or nobility.Imprisonment.
11. Bribery, blackmail, or fraud. Imprisonment or Death.
12. Arson, intentional or reckless. Imprisonment and/or Restitution.
13. Using magic or heavy weapons in the commission of any crimes. Increase in penalty.
